Major breakthrough in Arkhangelsk, summer 2006

Letter of intent signed with the Managing Director of agriculture in Arkhangelsk

21 st of June we made a giant step forward in Russia. After several years of work in Russia, we signed an important letter of intent with Arkhangelsk and Vladimir Gintof. According to our plan, we will start ecological farming and production of ecological products in Arkhangelsk. This is an important acknowledgement of our work, and proves confidence in our competence.

Based on this agreement, the Director of agriculture has connected us to significant organisations and individuals within agriculture in Arkhangelsk. Farmers who want to participate have been recruited to the project.

The major focus of the project is to develop modelfarms on ecology on various areas such as potatoes, bee-keeping/honey, sheep farming, goats, cattle and horse. From production, certification and to selling the products in the market-place, we will follow the project all the way through.

Around every farm, Økopomorka will initiate projects on town development involving many other farmers who are given the opportunity to participate in the practical work. We wish to ensure that what we do makes a fundament for teaching others to start later.

The signals from president Dmitij Medvedev and Moscow are very positive, this also supports Arkhangelsk in the belief that the area can become the leading region in this field.

ØkoPomorka really experience that we are welcome in Russia, having worked there for many years and learned the culture and the people. The expectations are quite high, which we only see as a positive element. Working with ecology in this area, which is on the same level as Norway was 20 years ago is interesting and exciting for ØkoPomorka. Facing an increasing demand for ecologically produced products in Moscow and St. Petersburg makes us feel certain the project has an important mission.
